Save the Date May 15, 2010

Thanks to all those who participated in or helped with the 2nd Annual Paddlefest. The planning for 2010 Paddlefest is in the works. There are several new exciting activities we are considering for next year's festival.

The HRL Paddlefest website will go into hibernation mode possibly until 2010. We will keep our Twitter Link active to notify you of any upcoming Changes. Remember to check our Twitter Grid on the right sidebar of the site for the latest news about Paddlefest.

In closing I can't say enough good things about our Scouts from Troop 448 of the Central District who helped with Paddlefest. Special thanks also to the other Scout Leaders from the Central District who were involved. The energy, enthusiasm the Scouts bring is always like breathe of fresh air.

We always need volunteers and people with ideas on how to make our 3rd HRL Paddlefest even better. If you would like to help for 2010, please email us at hrlpaddlefest@gmail.com. Our planning sessions will start in October and continue up to the day before the festival.

Deep Water Rescue Classes Saturday

If you only took one class about paddling "Deep Water Rescue is the most important one you could ever take. No one plans to tip over in a canoe or kayak, but unexpected spills happen. Could you help someone get back into their boat without flipping your in the process? What are the first things you should do and What should you avoid doing? There are 100's of scenario that can play out in any rescue. Knowing a few of the basics will go a long ways in preparing for when it does happen. All paddlers eventually end up in the water, it's how they recover that can make the experience more tolerable.

Due to a the death of a close Friend. Banks Dixon of Frog Hollow will be unable to attend. He will missed, but in his place we an equally good paddler and instructor. Edgar Peck who has written a book kayaking will teach our Deep Water Classes Saturday. He brings a lot kayaking experience to the table. Classes start at 10:30 and run1.5 hours. The cost of the class is $12 which is a bargain for course that normally cost around $100. An additional class may be offered from 12:30-2:00 If you liked to know more about Edgar click here and read last years Bio.
